HelloSugar Marketplace
HS Marketplace is Hello Sugar's internal marketplace for buying and selling franchise locations. Owners can browse salons for sale on an interactive map, list their own locations with real sales and membership numbers attached, and get email alerts about nearby opportunities like a competitor salon closing.

Problem
Hello Sugar franchise owners who wanted to buy or sell a location had no shared place to do it. Deals happened through word of mouth and one-off emails. Buyers couldn't see what was available, sellers had no standard way to present a location, and the numbers that matter (sales and membership) lived in a separate data warehouse that owners couldn't easily get to. Owners also had no easy way to spot openings nearby, like a competing salon closing.
What I built
I designed and built HS Marketplace, an internal web app for buying and selling franchise locations, using Next.js, TypeScript, Postgres and BigQuery on Vercel.
- Map-first browsing: every Hello Sugar location plus competitor salons on an interactive map, with distances measured from the viewer's nearest salon.
- Seller listings: sellers create listings with photos and financials, and admins review and approve them before they go live.
- Real performance data: each listing pulls net sales trends and member conversion rate straight from BigQuery, so buyers see actual numbers instead of self-reported ones.
- Alerts: owners get email alerts for new listings that match what they're looking for, and when a competitor near their salon closes.
- Competitor monitoring: owners can ask for a competitor brand to be tracked, which kicks off an automated scraper pipeline.
- Admin tools: an admin dashboard, plus an MCP server so admins can run the marketplace from Claude (approve listings, manage users, look things up), with every action audit-logged.
- Secure access: Google and magic-link sign-in limited to company accounts.
Outcome
- 11 competitor brands tracked automatically, with closures showing on the map and going out as alerts to nearby owners.
- Roughly 315 locations mapped from the company's source-of-truth data.
- Gave the franchise network one trusted, data-backed place to look at buying and selling, replacing scattered emails.
